Today we wanted to announce a new resource on Philly Music Link: Philly Venue Accessibility Guide.
If you are familiar with our site, you may have noticed that we have already included ADA/accessibility information in our venue guide. While many venue websites have ADA pages or contact info, we found that many lack detailed information or descriptive knowledge derived from personal experience. Throughout our research, we stumbled across older websites that tried to centralize and disclose this information for a range of Philly venues. Unfortunately, many of these resources have become extinct or contain out of date information.
We thought it would be useful to gather as much knowledge as we could, and provide it in a single place that could be used as a quick reference for people looking for accessibility information.
One of Philly Music Link’s goals is to provide as much detail and guidance to music enjoyers in the Philadelphia community, whether they are new or veteran. And with this, we hope to reduce any anxieties, discomforts, or remaining questions a person has when trying to find environments to experience live music.
Another big aspect of our platform is community. As a team of two, we have been slowly but surely entering information on our website based on information that we have gathered from existing websites or personal experiences. However, we have come to find that community input is increasingly valuable, especially for environments we don’t commonly frequent or for situations where we may not have the same lived experiences as others.
As part of sharing this spreadsheet, we would like this to be a resource for the community and maintained by the community. We have spoken to many people passionate about accessibility in the music scene and have asked what some of the pain points with accessibility information are: What kind of details are commonly missed out in typical ADA coverage? What sort of trends are they seeing when it comes to venues and accessibility?
We’ve started with a handful of venues, but will continue to grow the list over the coming months. We hope that it’s a good starting point for community collaboration and feedback, and invite those who are equally passionate about access in the music scene to reach out to us if they would like to contribute.
